If God Exist, Then Why So Much Evil

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

I Met with Taj, a 17-year-old Senior at Jack Yates High School. I haven’t seen Taj since he had his hernia surgery and me having my 3rd child, just one day after his surgery. The last I talked to him, he was in pain, scared and a broken young man. After a week in a half I finally got to meet up with Taj in front of his high school to talk.

Taj had a lot on his mind and asked me “the most asked question about God”.... “If God is real, then why so much evil in the world? Why so much pain and suffering? God knew all this mess would be happening in our world so why doesn’t He just stop this, if he really exists?"

I needed the Holy Spirit to give me what to say at that moment because Taj was in a bad place mentally and needed answers now.

THIS IS HOW OUR CONVERSATION WENT

We talked about how God made the perfect place for Adam and Eve to live in, the Garden of Eden. Then for some reason, He just had to place the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, right dead smack in the middle and say "the day you eat of this tree, you shall surely die". It is quite obvious God wanted man to choose to be obedient. That he has gifted man with the power of choice. But lets not make any mistakes here. EVERYTHING God created was perfect. The tree, itself wasn't evil. Man's knowledge of good and evil would be the consequence of his actions that would affect humankind for generations and generations to come.

Mans knowledge of good and evil would be the consequence that will affect humankind for generations and generations to come.

Just like we want our parents, spouse, children and significant other to be in relationship with us by their own choosing; seems like The Most High God expects the same thing from us. Free moral agents with the freedom to choose.

God knew man would fail and cause sin to come upon all men (Romans 5:12)

Because of this, God had already prepared a sacrifice, a Savior that would pay the penalty of sin for all men (Romans 5:17-21)

- For God so loved the world………..(John 3:16)

Because of what Christ did on the cross, that act, if we accept this gift, saves us from;

- The penalty of sin (Romans 6:23)

- The power of sin (Romans 6:1-11)

- And one day from the very presence of sin (John 14:2-3)

God NEVER falsely advertised that this life in Christ would be easy

-Man’s life is short and full of trouble (Job 14:1)

-Filled with different kinds of temptations (James 1:2)

-In Christ you will be persecuted (John 15:20)

-We are fighting against wickedness. Put on the armor of God (Eph 6:11-18)

The World majors in false advertising. "DO YOU! Do what please you, which is the ultimate satisfaction."

-The heart is deceitfully wicked (Jeremiah 17:9)

-Don’t be led astray with empty deceit (Colossians 2:8)

-Way that seems right, But the end is destruction (Proverbs 14:12)

-Lovers of self in the last days (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

-Your real purpose to please God (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

One day God will judge this world and separate the righteous from the unrighteous.

-Wheat from tare (Matthew 13:24-30)

-Is your name written in the Book of life (Revelation 20:12-15)

What we longed for in the Garden of Eden will become a reality for those who accepted Christ

-I will put my Spirit in you---Ezekiel 36:24-27

-No more tears, no more death---Revelation 21:1-7

I expected some push back from Taj but he said this all made sense to him. Praise God! I didn't know if Taj would "get it" but i was praying throughout our conversation for the Holy Spirit to guide me.

If you could continue to pray for Taj, who could represent so many teens today who are challenged with these same questions. that he would continue to draw close to God. Good seeds were planted in this young man this day but I pray that the Word of God would take root in Taj's heart and save his soul. That he becomes the man of God that God is calling him to be.
